Newland Parish Council Annual Meeting - Minutes May 2017
Held at Drax Primary School, on the 9th May 2017 @ 7.30pm
(1)Councillor Greenwood was appointed as Chair of the meeting
(2)Present
Eight residents of the Parish and The Clerk
(3)He following matters were raised and discussed
i.Local resident who couldn’t make the meeting, emailed SG to read out his email about a few concerns within the Village
ii.Fly tipping near Mrs Barton’s property – a discussion took place about the possibility of some signs to be erected to try and deter the people responsible.
iii.Motor cycles on A645 (using Mill Lane to access A645) – Highways to be contacted as the gate is broken and needs addressing.
iv.Litter – It was discussed about contacting the Probation Services to see if we could have any help in tidying up the Village from people driving through and leaving litter.
v.The Chair discussed the Drax newsletter which will be distributed 4 times a year and we have been asked if we have anything to contribute to this. The Chair did say that Newland have a small piece in the next publication.
vi.The dog poo bin as now been ordered and MT to make contact with lady from SDC who organises the emptying of them so we can be added onto the route.
vii.Member of the public mentioned about speeding through the hamlet (What can we do about it) maybe look into more road signs.
viii.Potholes – The owner of Gatley House has now started removing the trees which were overhanging the road and this is making the highway much easier to pass.
ix.Land available to rent for allotments within the village. It was discussed that a notice could be placed on the noticeboard if any interest.
The Chair has received the money from the Parish Educational Trust – a decision needs to be made as what to do with it, a discussion was held and a letter is going to be drafted to all the local head teacher’s to also get some feedback for ideas from them if it could be utilised. Whatever is decided, we want it known
THE COUNCIL IS PLEASE TO ANNOUNCE THAT A NEW CLERK HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO RELIEVE THE CHAIR OF THE DUTIES OF THE CLERK. SHE IN MICHELLE THORPE WHO LIVES IN HOOK AND IS ALSO THE CLERK AT LONG DRAX PARISH COUNCIL. SHE CAN BE CONTACTED BY PHONE ON 07921838787 0R BY EMAIL 0N [email protected]
HAVING REGARD TO THE NUMBER OF DOG OWNERS IN THE HAMLET, THE COUNCIL IS PURCHASING A DOG BIN FOR SELBY DISTRICT COUNCIL WHICH WILL BE SITUATED BY THE PARISH NOTICE BOARD. PLEASE NOT THAT SELBY DC HAS DECREED THAT ALL DOG EXCREMENT MUST BE BAGGED AND TAKEN AWAY IN RESPECT OF ANY EXCREMENT BEING LEFT ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE THEREARE SPPED RESTIRCTIONS. IN NEWLAND THIS MEANS FROM THE 30 SIGNS ON MILL LANE AND BRIER LANE TO THE 30 SIGN ON THE RIVERSIDE. FAILURE TO REMOVE THE OFFENDING ITEM WILL IN CUR A FIXED PENALTY FINE
A SPECIAL THANK YOU IS DUE TO HELEN BROWNBRIDGE FOR THE TIME AND EFFORT SHE EXPENDED DURING THE FLOOD ALERT. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO SERIOUS FLOODING. THE RIVER CAME OVER AT JEMMISON INTO THE SECONDARY FLOOD PLAIN AND ALMOST CAME OVER AT FERRY CORNER WHERE THE BANK IS IN A DANGEROUS CONDITION AS THE 1947 REPAIRS ARE FAILING. THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY IS FULLY AWARE OF THE SITUATION AND THE COUNCIL IS MONITORING THE BANK.
THE REPAIRS TO THE BRIDGE WERE COMPLETED WELL WITHIN THE SCHEDULE ON 19TH DECEMEBR 2015 MUCH TO THE RELIEF OF THE RESIDENTS OF NEWLAND AND SURROUNDING VILLAGES AND TOWNS.
CONCERN HAS BEEN RAISED IN RESPECT OF THE REPAIRS TO THE CARRIAGEWAY ON THE EAST RIDING SIDE. IT WAS ANTICIPATED THAT MORE AREAS WOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AND THE STATE OF THE ROAD IN PARTICULAR THE WHITE LINES AND THE CATS EYES WOULD HAVE BEEN CLEANED AND REPAINTED AS REQUIRED.
IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THERE WILL BE A PRESENTATION EARLY IN THE NEW YEAR AT DRAX CLUB TO SHOWCASE THE WORK AND ENGINEERING ACHIEVEMENT IN REPAIRING THE BRIDGE.
